Mannix won the 2.5 mile race in a course record 12:23.5 time while Kovert was third in 12:58.Mannix Leads Tigers Over Indian CreekBy AKV KOONTZ Sports KditorIt seems like every time Tim Mannix goes out on a cross country course he comes up with a new course record.The Crothersville High School running ace ran in his third home meet of the season Wednesday afternoon and for the third time, lowered his own course record to help the Tigers to their sixth straight dual meet win, 24-32, over Indian Creek.Mannix originally set the course record at Crothersville last year, lowered it in the first home meet of the season this year, lowered it to 12:27 last week against Hauser, and lowered it again Wednesday, posting a 12:23.5 over die 2.5 miles.As Coach Carl VonDielingen says, “He has a lot of naturalability. Mannix can run just about any distance you put him at and do a commendable job as evidenced by the fact that he holds four school records intrack *'Tim ran all summer, runnmg in AAU meets, mainly participating in the quarter and half mile events. He says these sprint or shorter races helpedbuild his speed and endurance for the longer cross country running.“He’s got the will and the desire to run He enjoys it, he wants to do it,” VonDielingensaid.In addition to holding the course record at Crothersville, he also owns course marks at Southwestern, Edinburg and Waldron.Finishing second for the Tigers Wednesday and third overall was Rex Kovert. He ran a 12:58 which is his best time ever. “He has a tremendous attitude, like Mannix,” VonDielingen said. “He finished third, but you can’t complain with a 12:58.”‘‘We’ll find out what we’ve got Friday,” the coach said, looking at the meet against Brown County.
