Some very fine scores were mede exhibiting good skill end steady sim by those entered for competition of the prizes which were distributed as follows:The first prize of $G was awarded to G. WiUcnbom ; second prixe of $3 to E. Weideman; third prixe of $2 to Theo. Kremrey. The first prlxe in the s« eep-stakes was awarded to H. fichlegelm ilcb; second to FredSchwahn ; third toWm. I^ng.At the conclusion of the morning exercises, the crowd commenced to largely increase and tbs assemblage con-timiedtogrow in proportions till late in the afternoon. At , two o'clock thegathering was* called to order by A. J. Marah, who in some well chosen remarks introduced the president of the society, Wm. Schwahn, who in a brief but well conceived address, ably delivered, reviewed the program of the society from the date of it* organization till up to the present time,: He said two years ago on the 8th of September, the organization was effected with a charter membership of only thirteen, aod of those thirteen lie was proud to be ranked as one of the number. Previous attempts to orgauize a similar institution proved a failure, but the men who made the movement last, were of a determined (Spirit, full of enterprise and were bound to make it a success. Hinoe then the rankshave Increased gradually, until now the verein numbers the largest membership of any other society to be found in the city. By strenuous efforts, the financial affairs of the society had been placed in a healthy and prosperous condition, by the liberal patronage of the American as well as the German population to the entertainment* that have been offered fJW ri®® time, the society had accumundated suificiept funds to purchase the grounds within the enclosure that are now^pccupied by our celebration. A few guns were also purchased besides furniture, Ac., and there was yet a good surplus of available wealth in the bands of the treasurer. . The speakers rems*ka were made in the German language, and those who understood them say they were well gotten up, comprehensive and covered the whole ground of the poob*ty sjnce the dale f it® institution. The appreciation of the sentiment* ex-preased was well demonstrated by the frequent rounds of applause.The comet band added greatly to the enjoyments and rendered some fine national airs besides polkas, marches and waltxes.
