From staff reportsROCKY MOUNT — The third 3-A Big East Conference cross-country meet of the 2013 season produced no different results than the first two — at least at the top.Hunt sophomore Lauren West won her third girls conference meet while Northern Nash Stephen Whitehead claimed his third boys league race Wednesday at Nash Central. The Rocky Mount girls also won their third team race and Northern Nash, after finishing second behind Nash Central in the opener Sept. 4., won its second straight boys meet.West ran the 5-kilometer course in 20:19,46 seconds faster than runner-i|j|;up Barkley Browder ofRocky Mount. Fike’s Erin Pichey was fifth in a personal-best time of 21:50, nearly 50 seconds faster than her previous PR. She was joined by teammate Kristin Ewan in the top 10 (10th, 22:50) as the Lady Demons were third overall, five points behind Nash Central in secondand five points ahead of Hunt in fourth.“I am extremely proud the girls ran after a realhard week of practice,” said Fike head coach Patrick Yarbrough. “They are hitting their stride now and we expect them to continue to improve their positions within the conference.*Whitehead outlastedRocky Mount’s Zach Shea for the boys win in 17:24, 15 seconds faster than Shea in second.
