Linton wifi travel to Sullivan Friday, still looking for the elusive first victory, while North Daviess will host Techumseh.Linton dominated play of the first half, but North Daviess cafne alive in the second toclaim the upper hand------Neither team scored in the first period, as neither of the winless squads could mount any kind of attack with consistency.Bi»t on the Miners’ second possession ot the second quarter they hi* paydirt.Randy Sanders capped a 66-yard Miner dnve by catching a 26 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Rodney Robertson. Dean Leroux made good on the extra point and Linton led 7-0 where it stayed until the third quarter.The big play of the Miner TD march was a 17 yard pass over the middle to end Ken Gabbard by Robertson.. North Daviess came out fired up for the second half. Herb Abbott kicked the extra point and the Miners were back in the lead at 14-7t-----------------------During the 62 yard march, Robertson passed for 46 yards. Ken Gabbard and Mark Gen-nicks were the receivers, Gabbard catching two for 35 yards and Gennicks one for 11 yards.The passing opened up the running game which the Miners used to cover the final 16 yards.The second and tying North Daviess touchdown came as North Daviess blocked a Dean Leroux punt. Scott Winginger broke through the Linton line, blocked the punt and recovered the ball in the endzone. Roberts kicked the extra point and the contest was knotted 14-14.Linton went on the march again, passing against the Cougars. But Doug Kutch picked off a Linton screen pass with 20 seconds showing in regulation time, ending the drive.Linton chose offense in the overtime and scored on the third play. Tony Ledbetter dived across the goal line from the one, giving Linton a 20-14 lead.The Miners went after two points on the PAT, but a pass from Brian Mifflin was short, leaving Linton with a six point advantage.Throwing the ball for the second time in the game, Cougar quarterback DarenHolder floated a pass off the finger tips of Mifflin into the arms of Doug Wadsworth for the tying TD.On the extra point the snap was low and the holder didn’t get the ball in proper position, but Roberts got enough foot on the ball to slip it over the goal post.Linton’s play in the second half was the difference. The Miners dominated first half statistics with 77 yards rushing and 98 yards passing, while North Daviess had only 53 yards rushing and none passing Linton had seven first downs to the two managed by the Cougars. r--------But in the second half North Daviess had 134 yards rushing and 10 yards passing to Linton's 34 rushing and 87 passing North Daviess also had eight first downs to Linton’s five.For the game, the Miners had 286 yards of total offense, 111 rushing, led by Jim Newton with 44 yards in 12 carries and 185 yards passing, topped by 118 yards in six catches by Ken Gabbard.North Daviess had 197 yards of offense in the contest.Miner quarterback Rodney Robertson completed 13 of 23 passes for a 565 percentage.Linton also led North Daviess in turnovers, committing four to the Cougars two.Page 3 Linton Daily CitizDaily Citizen Photo By Steve Field*OFFICIALS SAY TOUCHDOWN andLinton's Mark Gennicks (82) lets his feelings show on the Miners second touchdown of the game. But 19 fourth quarter points enabled the Warriors to romp away 32-6 over the Thunderbirds Fridaynight.The victory upped the Warrior record to 3-0 while the loss dropped North Central to 1-3. North Knox will host Washington this Friday while the Thunderbirds host Brazil.North Knox fought its way to a 13-0 lead in the first half but had the advantage cut by a pass interception and 80 yard touchdown run by Gary Cormican with 58 seconds remaining in the half.Larry Skipper scored the first Warrior touchdown with 3:51 left in the first period on a threeyard run. Then with 9:38 showing in the second quarter Warrior quarterback Tracy Clifford hit end Tom Held for a 51 yard TD bomb.The scoreboard rested until the fourth quarter when on the first play of the final stanzaJohn Kixmiller scored from five yards out.Then Doug Chambon recovered a North Central fumble and four plays later Skipper scored again for the Warriors. Jim O’Dell finishedthe North Knox scoring for the night on the next series, going in from the three yard line with 3:51 left in the contest.North Knox had 430 yards of offense in the contest, 137 passing and 293 rushing.
