WARRIOR HERO—Senior Bob Button kicked a 29-yard field goal out ofthe hold of Chuck Thomsen last Friday to give his Winters Warriors a 3-0 victory over Hamilton City in the first outing of the year for the defending Sacramento Valley league champions.Winters meets rival DixonIf the Winters Warriors can claim their second straight victory tonight at Dixon, then alltheir Sacramento Valley league foes should put out the white flag.Winters faces their key rivals in Dixon at 8 o’clock in a practice football game. The sophomores start at 6:00.Coach John Kammerer’s Warriors used the toe of Bob Button to beat Hamilton City, 3-0, in last week’s opener. One fumble came on the Hamilton one-foot line and a pass theft came from the Hamilton 10.Button’s kick came with eight minutes to play. “He’s been kicking them pretty darn far,” saysKammerer. “He has a good toe on him. I feltthat he could do it. I had a world of confidence. I had no second thoughts about it. Button was in the clouds. He felt he couldn’t do it, I guess. I think I had more confidence than he did.”The Warriors did get a scare in the final minute. After a fourth down Hamilton play failed, Winters was called for a 15-yard penalty moving the ball to the Warrior 45. Hamilton opened up with passes and moved to the two-yard line on the last play of the game.Kammerer was particularly pleased with the stout defensive play of Martinez and Button.
