I JTommy Ortiz, an ex-Unicom football star who just returned from a two-weeks encampment with the Texas National Guard at North Fort Hood, participated in a swimming meet while there and won first place in a relay, sw imming for the Headquarters Battery of New Braunfels. Ortiz also tied for first place in another event, diving, but lost it on the flip of a coin for the medal. It will be recalled that Ortiz won the Texas National Guard welterweight boxing championship for the 36th Infantry Division back in 1948.
