DOUGLASS RIPSBy FRANK MARTIN IHTIFTON — Coach James Bryant's Douglass High Lions of Thomasvilie scored three touchdowns, and place kicker John Barring contributed a field goal and extra point to the cause, as the Lions downed Wilson High's Tigers, 28-0, here last night.The explosive Douglass offense racked up approximately 200 yards rushing and 92 Yds. via the air lanes to down the defensive minded Wilson Tigers.The game, was marred by many costly penalties, mostly off side infractions, by the Lions. “The boys were a little too anxious,” commented coach Morris Williams after the game.John Barring played an excellent game offensively and defensively. Barring made several individual tackles that Jarred the stadium, compiled 40 yards rushing in seven carries, booted one extra point, and later booted a 43 Yd. field goal, his first of the season*►Halfback Edress Dawsoncombined hard tackling with 49 yards for 10 carries to become a real . nightmare for Wilson High. Kirk Mitchell, Steve Brown and quarterback Cobb Mitchell turned in fine performances offensively.Steve weaved and bobbed SI Yds. on a breath-taking punt return in the second quarter, while Mitchell showed superb from in passing to ends Henry Childs, Robert Smith and L. W.Williams.Childs was a star In everyway. He displayed some truly magnificent catches throughout the game.Coach Charles Armster was very concerned when defensivestars Larry Jones sndBavid Banks were Injured on back-to-back plays, but both later returned to action.Ray Ford, Eeter Lawson, Velver Anderson, Earl v Armster, Banks, Larry Jones, CiIds, Steve Brown, Xdreee■Leo Elzy, Dennis Johnson, Joseph Adams, Larry Johnson and Ivory Hunter came through with brutal tackles to shake up the Tigers' offense.Barring punted 11 times for a sparkling 33.8 average to coach Bryant’s delight.
