Eldorado To ImproveAdams' Team Has Lean, Hungry Look‘ Last year when we were los- could stay within a touchdown of often Coach Adams spent anybody for a half, we couldbeat them in the last half,” Adams said. ‘‘My clubs havenearly always been smaller thanthe opponents but they were always in top shape and got stronger as a game progressed. Last year we just didn’t have it.”The Adams club of 1965 is paced by nine lettermen whohave that lean, hungry look ofAdams teams of old. T h a t means linemen weighing 160 to 180 pounds and quick-hitting little backs geared for speed.Jesse Hathaway and To m Blackwell are 170-pound senior halfbacks with the breakaway running ability. Charles Pilking-ton has been switched from end to fullback although he weighs only 155 pounds. Mike Suits, a junior, is tabbed as the startingquarterback.“I’ve got about 12 or 13 real football players.” Adams said. “We’ll have to give away a lot of weight against nearly anymost of his free period time in my office telling me about his football troubles,” says J. Ward Barnes, Eldorado superintendent.“So far this year I haven’t even seen him in the office.Somebody had better look out.” A1 “Bozo” Adams coached successfully at Eldorado for over a decade before he decided to try his hand at selling insurance. He even took a whirl in politics by running for sheriff of Saline County. But he came back to the football wars in 1963. Last year his club upset Johnston City 26-0 but lost its other seven starts for Adams’ worst year.“We lost a couple of games last year in the very last minute of play and we were in the game with nearly everybody formore than a half,” Adams said. At halftime ended all similaritybetween the 1964 Eagle team andAdams clubs of the past.“I used to figure that if webody we play but we’ve done that before.”Don Kingston and Fred Harris are assisting in Eagle football. The roster:Ends — Dale Miller, 165, sr., x; Larry Quigley, 160, sr. x;Larry Yates, 165, jr.; Dan Ramsey, 160, jr.Tackles — Charles Baugher, 160, sr. x; Harry DeVillez, 200, sr.; Jim Franklin, 185, jr.; Denny Gholson, 170, srGuards — Joe Wolfe, 165, sr.,x; Jim Morris, 165, sr., x; Steve Miller, 180, jr.; Deon Benson,155, sr.Centers — Jack Smith, 180, jr., x; Leo Mahoney, 160, jr.
