Coach Ralph Loascc’s grldmcn, operating off the single wing formation for the first time in recent years, presented a smooth working offense and a stubborn defense in the opener against Nevada. The blocking was good and the tackling was sharp for early season. Key blocks by lineman Dave Lively opened the gate for both of halfback Bob Vnjgrt’s touchdown sprints. The speedy Vajgrt was State Center’s chief ground gainer, the senior flash picking up 65 yards by running and 22 yards by passing.The Wildcat reverses, two of which went for touchdowns, were spearheaded by some fine blocking on the part of the State Center forwards and blocking backs, Gary Steffensen and Russ York. On the defensive side of the ledger, line backer Dave Lively led the locals with fourteen tackles several of which were made deep in Nevada territory. Jon Ward, Neil Sheppler, Duane Hllleman, Gayle West.phal. Carroll Huff and Alan Hllleman, also wore outstanding defens'vely in the line.
