Meliace reports that after less than two weeks of training the players are tackling harder than some Thanksgiving teams and that blocking and defensive play were good. Raleigh's Victor Peelish figures prominently in the Mountaineer plans at guard. Charley Harris of Hinton is favoring a pulled muscle.Thirty-four members of the 41-man West Virginia football squad are products of the home state* Of this number, 21 are from northern West Virginia and 13 from the southern sector.* Charleston, the state capital, has the best representation of any city. Four boys—Quentin Barnette, Charley Schrader, Bill Gardner, and Tony Paulin—hail from there.Morgantown and Warwood, each with three members, have the next best representations.a Seven members of West Virginia's ’41 squad are from without state borders, five of them from Pennsylvania, and one each from Ohio and New York. The Pennsylvania boys are Louie Dat-tola, Springdale; Hank Goodman, Bradford; Eddie Kulakowski, Kingston; Don McCann, Charleroi, and Neil Montone, Wilkes-Barre.Leo Benjamin, the likely center starter, hails from New Philadelphia, O., and Tony Leone, third-string fullback, from Albany, N. Y.Douglas Bowers, a former Mountaineer gridder and basketball star, visited the Jackson’s Mill camp on alumni day last Saturday with Grover Trail, another graduate, and returned with the report that George Davis has made a favorable impression as a member of th efreshmen squad. The all-state lineman is the fastest man in the frosh ranks at 100 yards and can outrun the varsity and first year men at 0 yards. Coach Bill Kern is said to be considering a plan to capitalize on Davis' weight and speed by using him in the backfield. The blone mentor knows that if Davis flunks that test he can always be used at guard post where speed is No. 1 on the must parade.
