Dubuque All-Stars Will Present Strong Line-Up Against House of DavidFor the flr*t time this season, the►Dubuque All-Stare hare been working out together, In order to put themselves in th# “pink for the great House of David baseball team that will be their opponents this coming Sunday. September 16, at the Dubuque Athletic field. The Du buquers have won four straight exhibition tilts and looked like a real club at all times. They defeated the Guttenberg aggregation, winners of the Maquoketa Valley league, in a wonderful game that brought the crowd to their feet on numerous occasions. The final score was 8-2, and a ninth Inning rally did the trick. Then the Du buquers walked away with a Northeastern Iowa All-Star club, and to top matters trimmed an All-Star team from the entireJ Maquoketa Valley circuit. Just to prove themselves a good ball team they took on an All-Star team from the Wisconsin-Illinols league and defeated them. In other words the Du-buquers have a clean slate, and against plenty stiff opposition and although they know the bearded men will be their toughest opposition this season the Dubuque nine will be out to make It five straight. The Dubuque club will not be weakened in the least by the loss of some of their pals who are participating in the Chicago C. Y, O. tourney. Charlie Stapleton will be at first Instead of In the outfield. Either Taplet or Maguire will work at second and their fielding has been superior to that of Koester, although the latter is hitting a few points higher. C. Kleeman will be at short and as the baseball bugs know, he has been taking part in most of the All-Star games. Steve Petrakis will be seen at third in place of his Kool-motor brother Wagner. Steve is a great ball player and his services will be a great aid to the Key City nine. Alrheart, another player to see plenty of action In the All-Star contests will do the catching, with Charlie Plamondon on deck. The outfield will be the same with the exception of Duane Wilson who will work in right field, and Ruddy, who will act as utility outfielder. McAleece and Mueller are the other regular outer gardeners. Harry New, who has been having just as good a success against opposing teams as his pal, Sprengelmeyer, will start on the mound for Dubuque. “Tony Bertach and A1 Smith will be the other chuck-era.former major leaguer. Alexander has made baseball history. He will never be forgotten as the hero of baseball when he struck out Laxerrf with the bases loaded in a world series game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees. This feat came after he was sent down the line by the Chicago Cubs the year before. Alexander claims that professional baseball Is a “cruel racket where you are the hero one day and a bum the next. The big fellow is still a wonderful pitcher and is enjoying himself, with a fat salary, travelling throughout the United States. Alexander does not have long hair or whiskers and is the only player on the club that doesn’t have long tresses This is to prevent people thinking that It might be someone impersonating Alexander. And we all know that beards, especially like the House of David possess, would make Baby LeRoy look like an old man.As mentioned before the House of David team has been taking everything by storm in all parts of the United States, not only in the win column, but they have been playing to record crowds. The whiskered boys are all ball players from alpha to omega and they will give the Dubuque crowd plenty of entertainment before the contest starts and local sport followers will also see plenty of baseball during the tilt. Grover Cleveland Alexander, who Is also known as “Pete” to his major league friends, will be on the firing line twirling to “Oily Smith, anotherThe game is scheduled for 3 p. m. at the Dubuque Athletic field, but the visitors will put on sn exhibition of “pepper” at 2:30 p. m. They claim to have the best “pepper combination in the country barring none, not even thl St. Louis Cardinal combination of Pepper Martin, Rothrock and Collins. The latter have been giving the major league customers plenty of thrills before game time, with their many stunts with the baseball.
