Soviets enter water ski championshipsTORONTO (CP) - Three entries from the Soviet Union are creating additional in-terest among competitors and fans looking ahead to the world water ski championships next week.“We’ve never seen them at the world level before/* meet organizer Clint Ward said of the Soviet Union athletes. “There have been Soviet observers the last five world competitions, so it's my guess that they are ready to challenge for the championship this time. Otherwise, they wouldn't be here.”Included in the Soviet Union entries is Natalie Rum-jantseva who recently set a tricks record of 6,200 points, the first time a woman has gone over 6,000 in that category.The Canadian team, which hopes to move up to second over all after a third-place finish at the last world championships two years ago in Italy, has a full six-member team entered.Joel McClintock and sister Judy McClintock of Mississauga, Ont., men's and women’s Canadian champions, are joined by Pat Messner of Ottawa, Brian Ashley of Kelowna, B.C., and Bruce Reid of Selkirk, Man.Lisa Sokolowski of Toronto had been listed as the third Canadian women's entry with McClintock and Messner but a shoulder injury may keep her out. Jeff McClintock, younger brother of Joel and Judy, is listed as an alternate, as is Kim Reid, older brother of Bruce.Organizers have 106 entries from 26 countries.
