They had scored with 15 seconds left in the tilt, and was their second fumble of the evening on the PAT attempt. All told, the visitors juggled the pigskin seven times, losing it on four occasions.Cambridge, a 28-0 loser toNew Lexington last Friday, must now start preparing for three ‘nightmarish’ weekends in succession. On Friday night the ‘Cats travel to St. Clairsville to engage former Cambridge football coach George Strager and his band of Red Devils who romped over Wheeling, 60-14 last night. Then on the next two weekends they face Zanesville and Wintersville.Wild PeriodWith Cambridge on top 7-0 and playing fired-up football it looked for awhile the score might remain at this point until the very end, but this was not the case. With 10:01 showing on the clock a Gary Bradison punt rolled dead on the Coshocton 43 yard line. Fullback Dale Garrett, a 180 lb. rocket who blasted his way for 115 yards in 25 carries, bucked left tackle for eight yards to the CHS 49 yard line.Quarterback Larry Dahlberg, who had a rough evening, ran a ‘sneak’ only to fall inches short bringing up a third down, inches situation. Dahlberg, as expected, called on Garrett and the fullback responded with two big ones to the 46. Halfback Mike Willard ran twice to the 35 and another halfback Mike Adams came off the bench for five yards to the 30.Garrett then ran over tackle twice to the 21 for a first down, but it wasn’t to stop there as Willard rounded his left, end running over three would-be-tacklers along the way, for the Redskins first score and many Bobcat fans began setting on the edge of their seats. No TiePrior to the contest Coshocton coach Bill Damsel stated he would not go for a tie if the situation arose. Last week Coshocton tied Claymont, 8-8. He didn’t. But a fumble on the snapbrought the ‘Skins up short and Cambridge held on to a 7-6 advantage. The Bobcats took the kickoff on their 33 and in three plays went to the 39. With a third down four, quarterback Rick Lilienthal found end Ken Cowgill open at the 48 and the fleet end scamped 61 yards untouched for the TD. John Nicholson, who booted a kick earlier for the initial PAT had this one blocked and for a few flighty seconds it looked like it would be costly.Last Ditch EffortNicholson’s kickoff rolled out of bounds on the Redskin 28 yard line, but the new rules the game is played under this fall calls for the ball to be placed at the 40 in this situation. With 4:15 left Coshocton started moving. Willard swept his left end only to find the hustling Shepard in his way at the 42. Halfback Jerry McCoy picked up three and Garrettfour in two plays to place the ball at the 50 with a first down.A pass attempt and a run netted zero, and Coshocton’s hopes sank when they were ‘burned’ with a 15-yard penalty. This placed the ball at the 35 of the ‘Skins. On a reverse Adams netted 13 and an incompleted pass brought up a fourth down 11. They again went to Garrett on a power play and he responded 13 yards to the 35.Two plays by Willard and an incompletion brought up another crucial fourth and five situation at the 30.At this . moment Dahlberg picked this time for his only completion of the evening when he hit end Tim Cooksey at the 25 for a first down by only a small margin. On the first play McCoy footed his way to the one yard line with only 55 seconds left in the fray. In two plays Dahlberg took it over and thetension reached its highest peak.During this drive Coshocton used the reverse three times, all successfully and many felt they would do it again, or try to anyway. They tried, but failed when Dahlberg stepped out from under his center to soon and the ball squired loose with t h e sharp eye Shepard hovering over it and the Bobcats victory was assured.First HalfAfter a scoreless first quarter in which little action was shown Cambridge finally tallied their first touchdown of the season.Larry Raptis recovered a lose ball on the 47 of the Redskins. Lilienthal called on Shepard for eight to the 42 and halfbackLenny Crawford, who quit the team last week but returned, scampered to the 17. Nicholson hit to the 10 from where Shepard took it in with 7:32 left in the half. Nicholson booted the ball through, with plenty to spare, to make it 7-0.In the first period Coshocton ate up valuable time with a 17 play drive from their 27 to the Cambridge four, but again the Redskins were halted by a fumble which Dick Raptis recovered.During this offensive thrust Garrett carried nine times for 45 yards. Two illegal-procedure penalties hurt the visitors considerably.‘Skins Dominate Actually, Coshocton dominated the game accordingto the unofficial statistics. They rang up 15 first downs to only eight for Cambridge while piling up 299 yards on the ground to 144 for the winners. Cambridge hit for 55 yards in the air to only six for the Redskins. Lilienthal hit on three of seven while Dahlberg three seven times completing one.STATISTICSCam. Cos.First Down 8 15Yds. Rushing 144 299Yds.
