Quarterback Gary Mueller fired an aerial bomb to end Dennis Osten for six yards and a 6-fi lead. The try for one extra point on a kick went wide of the goalposts.Passing from the arm of Mueller, a junior for the Silver and Blue, connected on 13 tries out of 24 attempts and the completions picked up 161 yards.Halfback Jerome Bruckner snagged three for 75 yards. The firsl Bruckner catch was of the weird variety. In the first quarter, Mueller passed lo end Ted Schmidt, but the hall bounced up into the air and into the waiting hands of Bruckner. The senior halfback then raced 56 yards before being hauled down at the 12-yard line of Arlington.A tough Eagle defense, mainly against the rush, held Lakeview to a minus four yards on the ground. Arlington defenders, Tom Plugge, Mitch Chase and captain Stuart Thomsen led the charge.Coach Jim MclVilliams’ Vikings had defensive standouts of their own in senior tackle Ered Siefken, who made 10 tackles, and Osten with nine stops.Oilier top defenders were linebacker Clele Pillen, and cornerback Dave Silva* Pi I Jen kept the winners from getting a TO right before the half, as hetackled Tim Brown at the 20-yard line.Brown was all alone when he caught a Burgess pass that sailed 34 yards over the heads of the Lakeview defenders. Kosch broke three tackles in covering the last 19 yards, and a Briggs-Swierczek conversion pass (good for two points this season), buosled Uie advantage to 20-0.West: Pojnt moved with the ensuing kickoff as far as the locals’ 39 before surrendering the ball on downs. Scotus showed good diversification on offense, and also look advantage.of a pass interference penalty against the Jays, in a 61-yard drive for a fourth TD.Hamiing Gets TD Leo Hamiing zipped 16 yards lor Lhe TD, and the score stood at 26-0 after an attempted conversion run was halted.Scotus drove 74 yards for a final touchdown in the last quarter, wilh Frank Meilak doing the bulk of the signal-calling during the march. Stan Liss hotfooted 20 yards for the tally, and Mielak ran the extra point {also good for a pair).Bob Lueke, who turned in a creditable game for the locals, reportedly sustained u whiplash injury in the final period. The Shamrocks in general came through the curtain-raiser in good plysical shape, looking ahead to next Friday’s game at Cairo Centura. Centura opened with a 12 6 derision over Gibbon.
