Kims Gets Professional Handicap-* French And Counselmen First In ThePursuit— Novice Event Goes To Broek-man And Amateur Handicap To Mag*ness.Maryland bicyclers have never before had such a day's racing as that of yesterday at Electric Park. The occasion was the Maryland Division meet of the League of American Wheelmen. Besides the racing, business relating to the management of I he division and national affairs were acted upon in a convention, which heldtwo sessions In the Casino during the afternoon.An account of these proceedings Is given below. They began with a road race, which started at 10 o’clock in the morning. After this a session of the convention was held and then the track racing began. The firat events were trial heats, which were made necessary by the very large list ofentries for the various races. In the afternoon a second session of the convention was held, and shortly afterward the evening racing began, a very large crowd beingpresent.The mile professional handicap brought out so many professionals that it required three preliminary heats before the race narrowed down to a final. It was a pretty race. It was won by William Blms, of Washington. Thomas Magness, who had won at Westminster, captured the amateur mile handicap. After riding off a dead beat with Frederick Meyers, Hubert Wright won the mile Maryland Division L. A. W. championship In ridiculously slow time.The final event was the Intercity tandem Australian pursuit race. It had eight entries. Just as soon as one team caught another and passed It the team which had been outridden was compelled to drop out. It was on the battle royal style—u case of survival of the fittest. At the end of the second mile teams began to pass, and at the end of the sixth mile but two were on the track After a game ride R. L. French and Lee Couuselrnan scored a popular victory. Following are the summaries of the finals:The Morning Session.The convention was called to order by Chief Consul Conway W. Sams, with Robert H. Carr, Jr., secretary. Not more than fifty members were In attendance. It was decided to have the Maryland delegates to the next national assembly use their efforts to have professionals admitted to membership In the League of American Wheelmen; to have all amateur racing men who are now members of the L. A. W. register, at do the professionals, and to have all registration fees and fees for sanctions paid to the chairmen of State racing boards instead of to the chairman of the national racing board. If these fees should amount to more than Is necessary to defray the expenses of the State racing board, the surplus to be paid over to the chief consul to be used for the benefit of the State division.The delegates to the national assembly were further instructed to urge local option In the matter of Kunday bicycle racing. The chief consul of the Maryland division was Instructed to call semi annual meetings of the division Instead of an annual one, as Is now the custom. As there were so few members present, the meeting adjourned until after the afternoon racing.*lhe Afternoon Work.In the afternoon Frederick *R. Eisen braudt was elected delegate to the nominating convention, which is t« be held at the Maryland Bicycle Club on October 20. Mr. Eisenbrandt goes unpledged. He rep resents the unattached cyclers. The convention will consist of nine delegates from the Maryland Bicycle Club, several from the Centaur, Myrtle, Clifton, Vesper and other dubs. These delegates will elect the officers for the ensuing term.
