ALEXANDER WILL HURL FOR HOUSE OF DAVIDSUNDA YBewhiskered Nine to Play All-Stars at Athletic FieldCity league officials announced a new line-up of players for the (tame with the powerful House of David team, which will play here this coming Sunday, Sept. 16. The strongest team possible will be put together to offer the best of opposition for the invading bearded club. First of all, Lionel McAleece, pilot of the Grenadier machine, will act as manager for the Dubuque All-Stars against Grover Alexander and the rest of the bewhiskered lt;gentlemen, who have been defeating all kinds of opposition In all parts of the United States this past summer. A list of 15 men was decided on and McAleece will have complete charge of the locals, and the best combination will stay put throughout the entire tilt Charlie Stapleton, PetRits first sacker, will do the work around the initial bag for the Dubuquers.Either Maguire or Tapelt will start at the keystone base in an attempt to stop the House of David. Carl Kleeman will work at short, while Steve Petrakis. of the Kool-motors, will be stationed at third, j Tapelt Is a Sinclair product, Ma-! guire a Koolmotor, and C. Kleeman : a Grenadier man. Ray Airheart,I of the Grenadiers, will do the receiving with Charlie Plamondon, of the Elrecos, ready in case of necessity.In the outfield the Dubuquers will use Mueller and McAleece, of theIKoolmotors, and Wilson, of the Sinclairs, and also Ruddy, of the Elrecos. The pitching staff will be composed of New, of the Kool-motors; Bertsch, of the Grenadiers, and Smith, of the Elrecos. This group of ball players represent some of the best ball players in this part of the state and will offer plenty of opposition for the House of David bays. Most of the locals are hitting above the .300 mark and also have been playing great defensive games all through 1 the year.Ray Doane, business manager of the House of David, has not sent in the names on the roster of the ; House of David aggregation as yet.lt; but Dubuque fans can rest assured that it is the original House of David club that has Grover Cleveland Alexander, former big league ! chucker, among their starting j pitchers, as well as a few other • ball players of note.I This is the team that works out against big league opposition In spring, training camps in and I around Florida, and when we say I work out we mean that they won ! their share of games against the j major league clubs. The visitors | will offer plenty In the way of en*| tertainment in the way of their classy “pepper game.” which will !| get under way at 2:30 p. m. Then, I I too, their infield practice is worth I the price of admission alone. They. do everything but eat that old base-' ball. However, when the game, starts they get down to business and are out to win, and fans can j rest assured that they won’t over perform.In other words, the Dubuque nine will be out to beat them if at all possible, and the House of David boys are intent on winning all the games they can as this makes booking arrangements a lot easier for them. As mentioned before, members of the House of David team are exceptionally good ball players and are drawing down a plenty god salary on their tour throughout the United States.This same club came to Dubuque a number of years ago and drew the largest crowd that ever witnessed a baseball game in Dubuque, about 5,600 people to be exact. Of course, there are a number of new faces in their line-up. but we believe that Tally, their first baseman, is still with them, and how that boy can play first base is nobody’s business.
