Mistakes prove costly in Golden Tigers’ loss By Scott FRANCO Mirror Sports Staff here’s no secret in the fact that turnovers can dam age a high school football team’s chances at winning, and Hollidaysburg proved that on Friday night at Mansion Park. Three turnovers by the Golden Tigers were turned into 22 points by South Western as the visiting Mustangs recorded their first win of the young sea son, a 41-26 decision over coach John Barton's Tigers. “Last week we talked about being smart, about being disci plined, and we were the exact opposite of that this week,” said Barton, whose club was coming off an impressive 37-10 win at Altoona in Week 1. “We went in the other direction (tonight).” The Tigers fumbled the open ing kickoff, and the Mustangs made them pay for it. South Western, coming off a 28-0 loss to Gettysburg, marched 24 yards in five plays, scoring on a 4-yard TD pass from Zach Hetrick to Andy Ault. After a Devin Roach 48-yard touchdown run put the Mustangs up 140, Hollidaysburg got back into the game on the arm of quar terback Tyson Mangle. The senior hit Jared Colmer for a 79 yard score with 45 seconds left in the first. The Garrett Clawson PAT made it 14-7. “I heard people say that Altoona is down this year, but (Hollidaysburg) came in here last week and beat them, and they spanked us good the last two years. Hollidaysburg is a good, physical team, but we did what we had to do to win,” South Western head coach Don Seidenstricker said. The Golden Tigers regrouped and took a 19-17 lead at halftime, thanks to two scores in the final 6:14 of the half. Mangle, on the same route, hit Colmer deep again for a 65-yard scoring pass. With 2:21 to go in the half, on a third-and-8 from the 26, Mangle scampered 74 yards down the sideline for a touchdown. “We felt we had that from looking at the tape (on them),” Barton said of the two similar touchdown passes. “But then they adjusted their safety in the second half, and we didn’t have the long ball anymore.” Please see Tigers/Page B7
