Phila’s Gilland top Midvale race winnerMIDVALE - New Philadelphia’s Dave Gilland won the season championship race and the points title with his fourth feature win of the year in Saturday night’s 30-lap nightcap for late models at Midvale Speedway.Gilland was the only driver at the one-third-mile oval to win four feature races this season. Gnadenhutten’s Jack Ripley was next with three.Gilland took the lead eight laps from the finish from polesitter and early leader Jeff Bitticker of New Philadelphia. Smoke Erickson of Dellroy was third, followed by Jack■V^'M^VilWyW«WVV»w» iPeters of Massillon and Lawny Vaughn of Malvern.Bitticker, Ripley and Tom Smith of Phila were heat winners while Mike Dawson of Carrollton won the dash. Pursuits went to Bitticker and Darryl Dexter of Gnadenhutten and Jim Galigher of Midvale claimed the consolation race.Randy Liggett of Uhrichsville won a heat, pursuit and feature in figure eight racing with Ray McKim of North Salem taking the other heat and Rich McKim finishing second in the feature.Dennis Fruitag won the spectator stock division feature with Brian Volk of Canton winning the consolation and a heat race and Gomer Lewis of Dover taking a heat.It was the final race of the summer at Midvale.
