53 IN BAKER HISTORYMayenschein First CaptainEntering the 1970 season, 53 Flyers have served as captains for Osborn-Bath, Fairborn or Baker gridteams since 1951.Baker will not select a captain or captains for the’70 season until the season ends. A captain or captainsare picked by the vote of teammates.The late Charley Mayenschein was captain of the 1938 Osborn-Bath team. He was succeeded by Larry Fischer in 1940, and in 1941, Frank Edwards wasnamed captain.Succeeding captains included Tom Wright (1941),Irvin Lang (1942), Gene Pitstick (1943), John Ehrhart(1944), Bob Crawford and Ray Ehrhart (1945), DaleMcEvers and Whitey Hamer on (1946), Roger Pitstick(1947), Jerry Moore (1948), and Bud Cunagin (1949).Ted Van Meter was the first Fairborn high schoolcaptain in 1950. Dick Cowman and Bob Sharp were cocaptains in 1951 and 1952 co-captains were Dave Leinsand Tom Williams.Also serving were Jim Phillips (1953), Jim Crumand Roy Steadman (1954), Tom Howard and Bob Fulton (1955), Bud Wooten and Dave Bruggeman (1956), Jack Gayheart and Ben Mosher (1957), George Henley and Tom Doan (1958), Tom Howell and George Branch (1959), Bill McMillan, Chuck Hasford and Glenn Henley (1960), Russ Hale, Tom Fulton and Henley (1961), Jerry Davis and Bill Wilkinson (1962), Ed McLoud and Andy Wisecup (1963), Tom Kothman, Jack Nickell and Mike Managan (1964), Jim Spencer(1965), Joe Massey, Bill Riggs and Larry Olive(1966), and Mike Herr and Dick Helms (1967), Dave West, Dave Bailey and Jerry Duke (1968), and Pete Kisielewski and Mike Pittman (1969).
