The Cats could gain no yardage on the first two downs of the series and then lost nine yards orthird down when quarterbackDennis Gibson was decked behind the line of scrimmage. James Hinton came on to do the punting and really boomed the ball about 66 yards into Lion territory. This was just one of several brilliant kicks that Hinton made during the game. The Lions could muster no yardage and were forced to punt. The Bobcats kept the ball only two plays before fumblinghalldown to the East Mississippi 15 yard line. The Lions could gain iio yardage on first down butin the third quarter.The Lions received the kickoff, but were unable to produce any offensive drive. The Cats took the punt on their 36 yard line. Quarterback Claude Lang gained seven yards on a quarterback keeper. Then halfback, Carroll Nobles rammed the three remaining necessary yards for a first down. A costly fumble on the Bobcat 48 yard line gave she Lions the ball. It took the Lions six plays to take the ball in for the touchdown when Mason hit Wallace Taylor for a 13 yard touchdown pass. On second down, the Cat defense caught halfback Larry Carr trying to sneak around right end for no gain. East Mississippi had some misfortune of their own on the next play when Bobcat defensive end, Richard Goldie, intercepted Lion, QB John Mason’s pass and gave the Cats the ball again. The Cats could do nothing with the ball and had to punt on fourth down. The Lions picked up a first down on a run by Cleverland Lewis for tenyards before being stopped by j Alvin Darby of the Bobcats.
