Before that Kubsch was a longtime assistant to Schumerth.Kubsch has eight lettermen, plus two transfers from Oshkosh North. They are quarterback Steve Erickson (6-2, 180) and running back Scott Neitzel.Of the eight lettermen, five are backs. Included are quarterback Ed Nichols' (6-0, 165) tailbacks Craig Fredrick (5*11,160) and Kapp Schwebke (5-8, 160) fullback Bill Brady (5*8, 160) and wingback Jack Brewer (5*10,165).Reportedly, most of the lettermen were used on defense last year.Fond du Lac still is far from full strength, with running back Cliff Sasada and linebacker Jim Peters Joining Prochnow on the sidelines Sasada has a back injury and Peters an ankle ailment. Linebacker Lee Lawrence, who had been out with a hip injury, is working out again.Fond du Lac has never been overly impressive in its opening game, but Trtan hopes Friday’s game will produce an exception to that rule.Since 1964, Fond du Lac has compiled a 7-3-2 record in opening games. Detloff will serve as a swing man to give Wilhelms and Pierce a rest.The inside linebackers are the Stumbras brothers, junior Steve and senior Shawn (5-10, 165). Brazill and either Miller or junior Rick Pflum (6-0, 185) will be the outside linebackers.
