CHANNEL WATERSCaptain H. S. Short of the launch Charm was surprised yesterday morn ing when a chunk of a boy, probably 12 years old, came down on the dock i and calmly announced the fact that he was the party for which the boathad been chartered for a three days trip in the channel. The lad was “Bobby” McVickers son of H. G. McVickers of New York, who with his wife and two children have been at the Potter for the past week.Bobby is young in looks and small in stature, but in experience and good sense he is well advanced in years Trips from New York to Chicago alone have been easy for him for the past two years. In a short time he will leave for New York unaccompanied. The arrangements for the Charm were made by Mr. McVickers’ valet But Bobby saw to all the details. He nave instructions to the valet what should be taken and his idea of the necessities of a fishing trip are far 11 better than some men of double or tripple his age.The trip started Wednesday morn ing and is scheduled for three days i Bobby is going after tuna. His valet t is with him.1 I He had heard that there are tuna in this channel and after ascertaining positively that Captain Short had passed through a school of the king of game flsh on a recent trip across thechannel, he decided he would go afterthem. In his equipment is included the regulation tuna outfit and should he land one of the required weight he will probably be made the youngest member of the Southern California Tuna Club.Santa Barbara Press.
