Hut the tourth quarter brought new life to Linton and a 12-6 victory Friday night.The Linton victory ended along reign the Warriors held over the Miners as it was the first time since 1966 that the Miners have beaten North Knox It was also the first time in three years the Miners have scored against North Knox and the first time in four years the Miners have scored from the offensive side of the line. North Knox has traditionaly won its opening game of the season and this was the first opening game the Warriors have lost in over six years and first home opener the Warriors have lost in almost as longLinton started out looking bad as on the first play after North Knox kicked off. Miner halfback Dave Stockrahm fumbled the ball away on the Linton 38 yard line North Knox couldn't turn in any kind of score while inposession. North Knox worked the ball to the Linton 10 yard line where after three un successful plays the Warrior field goal kicker Kurtis Potts attempted a field goal and missedThe Miners couldn't record a touchdown or field goal and at the end of the first quarter the ball was in the Warriors posession and on the Linton 16 vard line with the score knottedwat zeroLinton started the second quarter much better than it started the game. On the first play Barry Kelly and Wayne Elliott broke through the Warrior offensive line and met on top the North Knox quarterback, throwing him for a 10 yard loss. Two plays later Linton got the ball backDuring Linton's posession Miner offensive end Duane Finley was kicked out of thewgame by officials for a flagrantfoul.At this point North Knox gained posession of the ball again as Linton could not make a first down The Miners stopped Warrior halfback MikewkiMiners score!!!White eight yards behind the line of scrimmage then cut a screen pass off with only a four yard gain Hut these were only slight delays for the Warrior ensuing touchdown. On the following play, second down and 14 yards to go for a first down, W arrior quarterback Gary Stephens found end Kurtis Potts open for a 41 yard touchdown pass Potts missed the extrapoint attempt and with 8:32 remaining in the first half North Knox led 6-0.The Miners mounted a short lived touchdown drive but fell one vard short of a first downwand was forced to punt the ball away North Knox punted the ball back to Linton after three plays but Linton fumbled the hall away on the second play from scrimmage as Warrior John Trotter recovered the tumble North Knox returned the favor three plays later and J. Ken Wright made the recovery for Linton. With 1:56 left in the quarter the Miners started their passing game but North Knox picked off the first pass The quarter ended with North Knox on the Linton 32 yard line and the Warriors leading 6-0.With one minute gone in the final period Dan Stockrahm picked off a pass intended for Brian Meek North Knox was assessed 15 yards for illegal motion on the play also giving Linton the ball on its own 40yard lineDanny Eccles was dropped for a three yard loss to start the series of downs but on the second play wingback David Stockrahm scampered up field for a 12 yard gain. Stockrahm again got the call and carried the ball for a 32 yard pick up and the third Linton first down. Linton tried the same play for the third straight time and was stopped at the line of scrimmage. North Knox was assessed a penalty at this point making it second down and five yards to go for a first down Miner quarterback Dan Stockrahm found brother David open for a nine yard pick up by air and the Miners gained three more yards on a recovered fumble, their ownWith the Warriors now looking for passes Danny Eccles was free to run and he was able to gain 12 yards, moving the ball to the North Knox two yard line Matt Rice dived across the goal line for the touchdown and the tie ball game. The extra point attempt by Sanders was no good leaving the game tied at 6-6 with 7:40 remaining in the game.The Minerdefense really went to work at this point. During the course of the Warriors’ next twoatposessions by North Knox Linton put on a touchdown drive that ended on the 15 yard line on a fumble. The highlight of the drive was a 36 yard pass play from Dan Stockrahm to Kirk Sanders which put the ball on the Warrior 15The Miners got the ball back after three North Knox plays and went to work on touchdown number two. The Miners had to control the ball and score in 3:27Two straight pass plays, both to Kirk Sanders, missed and the Miners had a third down and 10 yards to go Again Stockrahm went to the air again Sanders was his target This time the pass was complete as Sanders pulled the ball in with one hand for a 39 yard gainFollow ing another incomplete pass. Stockrahm went to the air for the fifth consecutive time. It was Sanders again, this time the 6-2 senior pulled the ball in for a 20 yard pick up. The pass moved the ball to the Warrior four yard line with 2:47 showing on the clock.The same dive play was called 111 the huddle that Rice scored on earlier but when Miner quarterback Dan Stockrahm approached the line, he saw there was no man over the center. Without calling off the planned play Stockrahm ran into the end zone for a touchdown while North Knox was watching for Rice to run the ball. The extra point attempt failed and Linton led 12-6 with 2:35 remaining to be played.The Warriors were soon back on the drive but were forced to consume precious time and time outs. With 48 seconds remaining Linton iced the game when J Ken Wright recovered his third fumble of the game.One of the important factors of the second half, particularly the fourth quarter, was that the Linton defensive line could not be kept away from the Warrior quarterback. Stephens, who likes to throw from the pocket, was forced to throw on the run almost the entire second half and on many occasions forced to run the ball.
