Monday evening the boys gave a ball at Mueller’s Uall, and, although the attendance was not as large as might have been, they had a good social time. The Ludfows have some good dancers among them and they seemed to enjoy the ballhugoly. On Tuesday, Shott’s “fellers” meant business. They were fully determined to tramp hard on the Hoosiers. How completely they did it will appear further along. The game, for the first three or our innings, was a good one, but, as they generally do, the Hoosiers weakened and could do scarcely anything. Mahon’s balls were exceedingly hard to bat, our boys securing only three base hits.— Summers’ catching was very good, as was Sugarman’s of the Hoosiers. The playing of Archibald at second was one of the features of the game. Archie is a first-class player, indeed all of them, without an exception, are superior ball tossers and as clever a set of boys as ever played the game. The score by innings is as follows:Innings 12345678 9Hoosiers ...0000000 0 I— 1 Ludlows ...0 0251 1 40 0—13 Base hits—Iloosier 3; Ludlows 12.
