Late Model Racing Gets Last ShowingRICHMOND — Late Modes: Sportsman racing, competition destined to replace what is popularly referred to as “The Modi-fieds.” gets its final showing of the 1968 season this Friday at Southside Speedway.Sonny Hutchins of Richmond el inched the late model sportsman track championship last week at the fast one-third mile Chesterfield County track. Hutchins, along with eight-time winner Runt Harris of Richmond, will figure to be top threats in the season finale forthe big ears.Promoter Emanuel Zervakis has scheduled 35-laps for the LMS and 50-laps for the modified s in the race series that will precede the season ending Virginia “400’' on September 13.Hutchins leads Perk Brown of Eden. N.C. and Billy Hensley of Ridgeway, Va. in modified standings and could well come closer to his double track championship this week.Ail other area tracks have closed for the season and another track record is expected this week in the number of cars competing. A new one-night record of 51 automobiles was set last Friday night.There will be 20 laps lor the growing ranks of the late model hobby cars, and four-lap heats round out this week’s race card.
