Cardinal Bench is Cleared as Denver Downs Omaha, 4-1By The Associated PrensDenver beat Omaha, 4-1 Friday night in a Western League game that featured a wild fourth inning.A rhubarb developed and Umpire Dan O'Toole cleared the Omaha players’ bench before allowing the game to continue in the fourth.Sioux City defeated Colorado Springs, 4-2, cutting the Sky .Sox’ first place lead over Denver to one game; Pueblo downed Lincoln, 4-3, and Wichita blanked Des Moines, 2-0.The fourth inning ruckus at Denver arose as Omaha had scored its only run. With the count 3 and 2 against Omaha Pitcher Gene Swinger, he stepped out of the box while Denver Hurler Barney Shultz was delivering and O’Toole called the Cardinals out on strikes.A howl went up from the Omaha bench and the players started heckling the umpire with the Bears at bat. O’Toole ordered all players from the dugout except the bullpen crew, the manager and two coaches.The seventh place Soos capitalized on a Colorado Springs error in the sixth to allow' Dick Getter to score from second with the tie-breaking run.Pueblo scored once in the opening frame against Lincoln and then racked up a three-run victory margin in the fourth inning.Delos Smith pitched Wichita's shutout over Des Moines. Each team got only two hits.
