From all reports the leagues -will be hotly contested alt; baseball interest is feeling the ef* fects of the stimulus given it by the recent Tribune California cham* pionship tournament. Prospective new managers wishing information regarding the new leagues shoulc contact the writer at 901 Broadway along with players who wish to line up with a team.On a recent trip to Los Angeles we met several Southern California baseball men. They had all heard of the recent State tournament and were anxious to know the details. Joe Pirronc, president of the Greater Southern California Baseball Association, hopes to start a Southern California tournament next Summer. Pirrone is t.ne owner of his own baseball park, which has lights for night baseball and a seating capacity of more than 51 CO.HEADS WINTER LOOP Pirrone is also the president of the Los Angeles Winter league, composed of four teams of active professional players and one of all-star Negro players from the Eastern Negro “big leagues.According to Pirronc, the games arc hotly contested, and last year, the Negro team won the championship with the great Negro pitcher, Satchell Page, mowing down the other teams. Page this year hurled the House of David team to the championship of the Denver tournament.Pirrone would like to bring the championship Negro team with Page to the Eastbay to play a best two out of three games series with a team of local big league stars wintering here. Pirrone thinks he could bring Dizzy Dean and a few other nationally known stars to play on the big league team.Would that be an attraction for local fans? Dean, one of the world's best pitchers, opposing Page, the world’s best Negro hurler!BENEFIT CONTEST Pirronc also would like to sec an annual game arranged between picked teams of young players with no professional experience from each end of the State. The entire proceeds would go into the respective insurance funds. This would help to bring out the best youngsters and put them in the limelight to show, their wares.
