Sept. 4.—Some time ago a pair of prairie wolves was shipped to this county from South Dakota. They recently escaped from their cage and since that time had been hiding hi the woods near the lake, and the farmers complained of the loss of chickens. Under the direction of Harry W. Overman, Chicago, it was arranged to give a wolf hunt on Labor day. Some dogs were shipped up from Indianapolis and yesterday morning the guests of ■ Siegler's Hot I formed four parties and surrounded the dense woods where thewolves had been seen several times duringthe past week.The following participated in the*‘drive:” Mr, and Mrs. H. W. Overman, Mr. and Mr,-*, A. J. Sharpe. A. Q, Harter, Charles A. White. Ed Davis and E. W. Tillotson. of Chicago; Frank M. Porch, of Washington, IX U.; B. J„ Brown. Miss HattieNeighbors. Mi.-s Myrtle May. of Indianapolis; Miss Grace Brown. Miss Pearl Nicholson, M,ss Mabel Brown* Miss Gwendolyn I'arry, of Crown Point. These persons, assisted by a number of small boys and ••natives.” formed themselves into four lines, surrounding the woods, the women and boys armed with clubs, the men with guns, and rounded the wolves tip into a patch of thick bushes, where it was the intention to allow the dugs to kill thi m. The yelling and shooting of guns causedthe wolves to break through the lines,made weak by the efforts of one of the young Women to climb a tree, and they succeeded in getting out.
