ONE FROM SPRUDELS OTHER TO SPRUDELSComet Jones Cleaned Up on the WestBaden Boys Saturday and the WholeRegiment Were Ucked SundayThe Loogootee Glass workers with Comet Jones in the box played a whirlwind game Saturday afternoon against the West Baden Sprudels, the champion colored team of Indiana. But when the second try came Sunday they were so completely swamped against the colored boys that the spectators tied kerchiefs over their faces to keep out the glare of the score board.The result of Saturday’s game was 5 to 3 in favor of Loogootee. Sunday it was 9 to 0. (in favor of the Sprudels.) We shudder to givethe result and the details of Sunday’s effort just as much as we takea pride in the doings of Saturday.When Saturday’s game was called neither Kovenor nor Blandwere on hands to do the pitching.Rather than call off the game the management put their faith in young Jones, of the Comets. He confidently went about the job with as fine an outlay of slow ball curvesas one would want to see. Crowecaught him with excellent precisionand coached the lad in his assortment of hot ones. The result was one of the prettiest games lately played in Loogootee. The hard hitting Sprudels did their best but at no time could get a lead on theComet boy. He struck out six of them and allowed only four singles.On the other hand the local team had a batting eye on the job and landed on Davis for fourteen clean hits.
