C A.J Ellis and OFSPORTS D3Monroe pulls out victory at EielsonStaff Reportsports@newsmmer. comThe Monroe Catholic Rams pulled out a five-game thriller against the host Eielson Ravens on Tuesday night.The Rams won the first two games (25-21, 25-19), before Eielson stormed back to take the next two games (25-19, 25-15) in the Aurora Conference high school volleyball match.Monroe reversed the trend in the fifth and deciding game, 15-8.“We are really lucky to get out of here alive, Monroe Catholic coach Mike Lessley said via cell phone while his squad was traveling back to Fairbanks.“(Eielson coach) Christine (Dyer) has done a very good job with that team and they are going to get stronger as the season goes along,” Lessley said.Lessley said the match went back-and-forth all night long.“I thought both teams were kind of timid in the first two games,” Lessley said. “Then, our serve-receive just fell apart in games 3 and 4. In game 5, we finally got it together and did a good job.”Katie Young registered seven kills and eight blocks to lead theway for the Rams. Bella Evans recorded four kills and three blocks.
