BEARDED GENTRY THRILL THE FANSSidelights of Ball Game Entertain Mob; Hoffner, Hall, Narleski, StarBaseball in Chester just about reached its peak for the year last night. A crowd that could not possibly have been less than seven thousand in number occupied every available bit of sitting and standing room at the Sixth and Yarnall streets emporium.. It was the greatest surge of humanity that has ever swarmed upon a sporting event in Delaware county in the memory of the oldest of the old-timers.The House of David-baseball team playing the Chester All-Stars was the attraction. These bewhiskored gents have an appeal of their own and the revival of baseball interests In this town has made the fans faseball minded—hence it was a natural sei-up.The ' limited seating capacity dwarf ted the possibilities of the promoters to make the best use ol . their show. Most of that sensational crowd was treated to a free exhibl-: tion. Only $111 was realized on the venture. It was impossible lor the collectors to do more than skirt the ; mob that lined the field on all sides. The railroad bank was robbed of its ■, green background by a solid mass of white shirts and the overflow poured tout onto the playing field until Ihe x. outfielders were standing with their * back to the front line of spectators.Oh yes—the ball game. Therein ;■ lie* • another thrill. These two clubs : put on one of the best exhibitions oi the year and at the end were all even at two runs each. The most surprising feature of this battle was that ten innings were completed. So fast and well played was that twilight affair that the fans were given three innings more hascball than is realized at the average midsummer games—. and this is late summer, with Ihe dusk gathering much earlier in the evening.It was quite a hectic mound due';, waged out there last night. Reds Maguire and Percy Hall pitched for our side, and the talented Mike Janesko went the route for the: Alfalfa appendaged athletes. Janesko gave up six hits, while the tuo local bowlers were touched for one more.Reds Maguire started 0:1 the. mound for the locals. He was used roughly right off the handle. Jimmy Woods, opened the game by firing a safe former Drexel University athlete, one for a single. Matt Ramsey, who played hookey from the Ridley Park Schools not so long ngc. carried his beard and bat to the plate nnd lifted the former high enough for his hat U slap out a two base drives Into the crowd in short right field. Hairy Forman, looking like Rasputin, glared at Lex Gillespie at short and before Lex could recover Hsiny slapped a high bounder past the local short fielder nnd two runs dusted home. Those two runs were a'.i the visitors could accumulate in the ten Innings of baseball.It wasn't long before Chester evened up the going. Hank La Fleur was the first to connect off Janesko. the Sinclair stalwart lamming out n • one baser. Billy Nnrlcs.h betted cue to the outfield that went lor two bases and I,a Fleur circled the sacks for a score. Narleski going to thiul on tire loss home. Boo Marlin was not on n grounder to short nnd Billy hold third. Fred Stott, subbing for pilot; Vann, crossed up the Davids defense i by dropping a perfect bunt that sent Narleski across the platter standing up. Fred was given a hit nr. bo dusted to first before anyone reached the ball. That finished of! the scoring for the day.
