IVom start to flnlsh the battle was all Brewer’s and never for an instant was the result In doubt Brewer gave additional proof that ho Is a comer, and that he will be heard from If he continues in the ring is the belief of all who have seen his work.Brewer has a good punch In eitherhand, and. what Is better, he has good head on his shoulders. Coupled with this is his ability of standing punishment that would put many of the better known ring generals to the had As to Percente there is little to say. If he ever won a tight it speaks illy of his opponent, as he not only utterly lacks style but his punches wouldn’t i:urt a (lea. Before the light no boasted of having fought draws with McGovern, Yanger and Battling Nelson. Poor deluded youth, he couldn’t' whip their baby brothers. But his showing did not detract in the least from the excellence of Brewer’s showing. The crowd had i ;ther seen the local favorite matched w.th a man nearer his calibre, however. But the star bout of the evening, so fur as science is concerned, was the go between Jack Carey, of Chicago, and Kid Am merman, of Daven|Krt. In the .ill-wind up. This showed the tight fans a sample of clever sjwrrlng never prevously seen here. A flnlsh light between either of these men and a worthy op|Kncnt would draw a big crowd.BARGE CROWD OUT.A crowd of 1,000 filled the Grand j era house when the (irst preliminary was called. The principals were two l«*-al colored men. willing and ready fighters, although comparatively unlearned In the game. James D. BRYANT.For three rounds the Brown-Bryant h;ht was a battle for keeps. Brown bed slightly the better of the milling and *anded several good, stiff punches. In the fourth both men went dead however, and front then on until th« finish there was nothing to it. Brown was the stronger, yet the breeze from an electric fan would have sent hint over Ihe ropes Brown was given the decision for standing stronger on his flt;et at the flnlsh.CARRY VP. AMMERMAN.The seml-roundup was the go of th' evening from n scientific standpoint The go was the fastest exhibition of scientific work ever seen In Ottumwa, yet the gallery hooted, a proof that ye Ottumwa gallery god wants nothing hut pure and unadulterated.Carey and Ammerman both have good records. Roth have a long string of victories to their credit. Carey, however. being the cleverer man. Their sparring match was the essence of scientific work and the spectators who possessed the slightest knowledge of the prune applauded them warmly.THE WINDUP.The windup was a battle from the bell until the finish. In the first round both fighters were weary and each was living to draw out the other. Once tlicy mixed, however, it was all off and there was nothing to Is* seen but Bicwer until the finish.FIRST ROUND.The first round opened with both men fighting at long range. Brewer led first and the men clinched after an exchange of rights and lefts. Percente led lefts for the face and the wind andreceived a stunning right in the head at th* hell. Honor* »ew even.SECOND AND THIRD.Brewer had his man guaged in the second uiid lie had slightly the better of both rounds. His most telling blows were right swings for the head and right upper cuts to the body. He had percente on the ropes at the close of the third.FOURTH ROUND.The fourth round was the beginning of the end for Percente. Brewer, confident of winning, rushed his man and drew first blood. A right to the wind followed by a left to the face sent Percente down under the ropes.THE CLOSING ROUNDS.From the fifth until the tenth the f-ght was all Brewer’s. He rushed his man with rights and lefts and hardly locelved a blow in exchange. His tantalizing remarks, one of which was the query, “did you ever sella de bannn.” eU raged Percente and brought the latter several additional punches. At the «lose of the tenth Brewer was as strong as in the first while Percente i.ad a severe case of that tired feeling. His nose was flattened perceptably and his eyes were discolored to show that he had run up against several stiff punches during the mill.P
