Martinsburg Seeks Sweep Fall CrownsDefending stale champion Martinsburg placed five runners in the top six, all led by record-shattering senior Chris Fox, to win West Virginia’s Region 6 crosscountry meet yesterday on Potomac Stale College’s 2,3-mile course.The Bulldogs, who seek a sweep of fall sport state titles with the school’s unbeaten football Triple-A leader, outdistanced meet runnerup Keyser 19-37 in the nine-school meet that, in reality, wound up a two-school contest.Other schools finishing were third place Mathias with 103 points, Jefferson 114, Mussulman 155, Hampshire 153, Frankfort 166, Wardensvilie 214 and Union2i5,Fox, who set the Keyser course record last year, shattered his own mark by 27 seconds with a 10:55 time yesterday, beating Keyser’s surprising freshman. Fred Riley by 35 seconds.In winding up second, Riley shaved a half-second off the old Keyser school record at 11:30, set three years ago by Mike Redman, who now runs for Davis Elkins College..Fox, regarded the best schoolboy cross-country runner in the stale, is expected to win the state meet next Saturday at Charleston’s Cato Park.
