Indians BeatBradford 36-0Here FridayIt’s a thrill that comes only once in a lifetime if that. So when it happens it s a real thriller. You can almost count on the fingers of one hand the number of times a lineman scores a touchdown, even in modern football, so when Jack Knell scoppeo up a blocked punt here last Friday night and took it in about 25 yards for a touchdown, it was a once in a lifetime affair.That touchdown represented a team effort by the Wyoming Indians defensive unit. It, was the second time in a row that a Bradford punt had been blocked and this time three linemen came crashing through to do the job. That first blocked punt also set up the Indians for a touchdown.The Indians made the Bradford game last Friday night their seventh win of the season as they blanketed the visiting Panthers 36-0. They were in control of the situation all the way as the defensive unit proved to be more than adequate to hold the Panthers in check.The offensive unit functioned much better Friday night, gaining lots of ground and being able to push the ball over for a score whenever theygot close.The fresh-soph offensive unit, when they took over shortly after the middle of the final period, also demonstrated their ability to move the ball and gave promise of good things inthe years to come. jThe Indians did not score in the initial period but ’ate in the quarter came into possession of the ball on the 50 and moved from there for their first TD. It came on a six yard run off left tackle by Rucker Meaker, a 12 yard gain by Unhold a few earlier contributing materially to the drive. The two point try failed.Their second score came with only 14 seconds left in the half. The drive « started with a pass interception, after which the Indians moved down briskly to the one foot line, where they had a first down. It took them four plays to push the ball over, Meaker doing it on a run of about two yards. O’Neill passed to Rapp for the additional two points.The Indians first blocked punt of the third period gave them the ball on the Bradford 16. O’Neill gained nine, Tuttle failed to gain, and then Meaker went six into touchdown land. O'Neill passed to Alltop for the extra points.Bradford had the ball for four downs after the following kickoff an i then had another punt blocked with I Knell scoring on the pickup of the ball. The pass for the extra points |was intercepted. \The final touchdown of the game came early in the final period. It was set up by a Bradford fumble which was recovered by the Indians on the Panther 34. Two plays in the third quarter gained four yards. On the first play of the final period O’Neill passed to Unhold in the end zone, but the Indians were judged in motion and drew a five yard penalty. Nothing daunted, O'Neill passed Unhold again on the next play and this time the touchdown counted. Meaker plunged for the two points conversion and the Indians were ahead 36-0.This Friday night the Indians go to Princeville for what will be the key game of the season. The Princes have won seven in a tow this season, all conference games and stand alone in first place in the conference standings.
