This was the worst defeat of the year for the Unicorns, who are now 1-6 for the season.Nothing went right for the Unicorns, on either offense or defense. On the first play of the game, after the Unicorns received the opening kickoff, they fumbled and the Roosevelt defense recovered placing the ball on the Unicorn 25.Three plays later with 10:40 left in the first quarter, the Rough Riders were across the goal line for the first of many touchdowns of the game.From that moment on, the Unicorns were no threat to the strong Roosevelt team.The Rough Riders made a touchdown every time they got their hands on the ball, except once. Late in the fourth quarter the Roosevelt team was stalled by the Unicorn defense on the Rough Rider 36-yard line. They then kicked their only punt of the game, a 44-yard kick with a strong breeze at their backs.The Unicorns were forced to punt six times in the game, besides losing the ball once on a fumble and twice on interceptions.The Rough Riders made the Unicorns look like a grade school team as they pushed theUnicorns around the field with relative ease. The Rough Ridersracked up a total of 450 yards rushing compared to only 68 for the New Braunfels team. In the process, the Roosevelt team accumulated 22 first downs.while holding the Unicorns to a grand total of eight.In passing the Unicorns completed only four ol 21 tries, losing two on interceptions tothe Rough Riders The Roosevelt team passed six times, completing five for 72 yards. The Unicorns totaled 31wyards on their completions.This Fridav the Unicorns will go against the Alamo Heights Mules at Alamo Heights Stadium. Game time is 7:30p.m.The Mules are 0-6-1- for theseason.Coach Luke Thomas describes the Mules as a “good defensive team” with no real strong runners. The Mules have an advantage in weight with several boys over 200 pounds, with one of their starters weighing 260.The Mules and the Unicorns should be evenly matched for the game.
