Rash Tommy Marvin Rassle Rascher TomorrowDECORREVONT, WILDCATS TRIMILLINOIS, 13-0LIEVANSTON, III., Oct. 28.—(U.P.) —Northwestern, baffled for more than two periods by an Illinois defense alternately employing five, six and seven-man lines, finally shook loose its attack in the last half and whipped the Mini 13 to 0 today before a homecoming crowd of 35,000.In the third period the Wildcats shook loose little Paul Soper for a twisting touchdown run of 74 yards and added another six points in the fourth when Illinois, passing desperately in its own territory, lost possession on a pass interception on its own 29-yard line.Until Soper broke out of nowhere midway in the third period j Am told us at Cedar Lake last sum-By GEORGE T. AULTRasslebugs are all in a rash over the prospects of seeing Ambrose Rascher, Cedar Lake’s terrific block and tackier, take Chief Tom Marvin apart in the feature of to- j morrow night’s mat show at the j Hammond Civic Center. jTommy is an old man in the j rassling business. His ears showj the effect of much cauliflower cul-! tivation but he has managed to | hang on to his Scalp and his social security number. But we’re awfully afraid Tommy failed to return to the reservation soon enough—in fact, tomorrow will be one day too late, for the venerable redskin is going to meet j an expert scalper in the rough, ready and robust Rascher.Marvin’s tricks won’t be new to Agile Ambrose, for the two have met several times In the past when Rascher was just a rash kid out of Indiana U., where he played football and won the Big 10 heavyweight rassling title.Rascher had a lot of respect for the wily Indian then. But now—“I’d like a crack at Marvin now,”it was a bitter struggle typical of their 33 previous meetings.Illinois was making one of its few advances when the Wildcats took the ball on a pass interception by Dick Richards on the Northwestern 26. On the first play, Soper shot into a quickly opened hole at left tackle, slipped through asmer, just after he’d finished off a toughie from Boston. “I know more about professional rassling now and if they’ll match us at Hammond, I think I can give Marvin the trimming of his life.”The funny thing is, Rascher was serious—just as serious as he is about conditioning himself forthe Mini linemen pawed at him I matches. Rasslebugs liked Rasch-, , . . . r I 1 l__J-_____* 1and burst into the open. He cut for the sidelines nd outraced Fullback George Rettinger who was angling to make the tackle.Soper crossed the goal line standing up and held the ball while Fullback Don Clawson place-kicked the extra point. The entire fourth period was played on Illinois ground, due largely to the accurate punting of Bill De Correvont. He drove his punts out of bounds on the three, one and four-yard lines.De Correvont’s last punt set up the second touchdown. Passing from his own eight-yard line Ralph Ehni dropped one into the arms of Tuffy Chambers, Northwestern righ halfback, on the 29. On third down De Correvont flipped a 10-yard pass to Ted Grefe, who was forced out of bounds on the Illinois three. De Correvont made two and Clawson hammered over right guard for the touchdown. Clawson’s attempted conversion struck the left goal post and bounded outside making the score Northwestern 13, Illinois 0.Northewestern clearly was superior on the basis of statistics, rolling up nine first downs to seven and gaining a total of 254 yards to 81 for Illinois. The lineups:NORTHWESTERN 13 ILLINOIS 0Grpfe ..............LE..............\mlersCutlieb .............I.T............. The squat, powerful and swaggering Roche offers plenty in the way of action, he's a tough guy coming off the ropes with a shoulder block and Marra may be in for a bad evening.Lloyd Fleming, the unbeaten and untied bus driver, will engage Henry Mueller in the preliminary match, and an added attraction will be a battle royal between five colored boys.Tomorrow night is ladies' night —with each reserved ringside seat purchased, a feminine patron of the cauliflower arts will be admitted free.
