Panthers fall to Woodbury CentralFor the first , time in Larry Wink’s Kingsley-Pierson football coaching career, his old home town, Moville, sent Woodbury Central up the highway and defeated the Panthers by the score of 26-13.“We had them and let them get away on a kickoff . . . That just killed us, getting ahead in the third quarter and letting them run a kick back,” was coach Wink’s comment after the game.It was a good game. A real big crowd. A good rivalry and a perfect night for football,” the head coach added, “Woodbury Central showed a good balanced attack.”iiKingsley-Pierson got on the board with Ken White scoring on a 24-yard run to putthe Panthers out front at the start, 6-0.Woodbury Central’s Jim Countryman biased over the line for a one-yard touchdown to tie up the score at 6-6 at the end ofthe first quarter.Tim Neustrom threw a 14-yard bomb toDennis Stubbs for the Wildcats to pull outfront, 12-6 at half time.Steve Schweitzberger ran nine yards for the TD with Mike Grave booting the PAT to put the Panthers in the lead again, 13-12.Gary Steffen ran back the 75-yard kickoff to put the Wildcats ahead with Neustrom throwing to Countryman for the two point conversion.In the 4th quarter, Neustrom threw again to Countryman for a nine yard pass play touchdown to boost the WC score to 26 points to the K-P Panthers’ 13.Each team marked 11 first downs with Kingsley Pierson out rushing the Wildcats 62 yards, 162-100.In the passing department, Ken White threw 11 times and four of them complete for a total of only 24 yards.Tim Nuestrom blasted the Panthers with 20 passes, ten of them complete for a total of 131 yards.Kingsley-Pierson was penalized 50 yards to the Wildcats’ 55 for the even contest.Kingsley-Pierson’s next game will be Friday, Oct. 29 as the Panthers will be on the road to Mapleton to meet Maple Valley.This will be the final road game for the K-P crew with their final game of the season coming Friday night, Nov. 5 against Sioux City Riverside.Le Mars Gehlen will meet Woodbury Central for their final game of the 1971 season Friday night, Nov. 5 on the West-mar field.Woodbury Central remains undefeatedfor the year.Scores by Quarters Kingsley-Pierson 6 0 7 0 13Woodbury Central 6 6 8 6 26StatisticsK-PW-C1111162100'241314-1110-20005055First downs Rushing yardage Passing yardage PassesFumbles lost.
