IN THE FOOT Ota WORLD.Massillon Victorious in Saturday’s Contest.CANTON’S CAME A COOD ONE.1IThe Massillon Players Say theVictory Was “Easy,” But Compliment Canton on Its Square Playing—Big Crowd, Present — Captain Stewart Absent.An immense crowd assembled on the high school grounds on Saturday afternoon to witness the foot ball game between the IXL team of Canton and the ex-high school team of Massillon, in which the latter was victorious bythe score of 20 to 0.The game was called at 3 o’clock sharp. Massillon won the toss and kicked off to Canton. Canton lost the ball on downs. Massillon hit the center two times; Myers then advanced the ball thirty yards by an end run, and the remaining distance to the goal was covered by hitting the center. It was an easy touchdown for the local players. They saw at once that the visiting team was not as strong as it looked. The teams formed at once for the second trial. Massillon lost the ball on a fumble, but it was regained by Myers who made ten yards. Massillon then pushed the ball forward bv ten, five, five and eight yards after which Myers went around right end and scored a touchdown.The teams went to work again, Canton kicking off to Massillon. Hipp fumbled and Bast picked up the ball but by that time Canton had arrived and prevented him from advancing it.Brown then sprinted thirty yards; Canton fumbled and Bast got the ball once more. The next play advanced it ten yards toward the Massillon goal. At this point time was called.During the intermission Myers took acollection from among the crowd which covered all expenses connectedwith the game.At exactly 3:30 the whistle sounded. Canton kicked to Massillon. McLaingot the ball and advanced it thirty yards. In the next three downs Massillon was only able to gain five yards and on a fumble of Myers’ the ball went to Canton. Instead of Canton advancing they lost six yards and the ball was in Massillon’s possession once more. Bast and Myers in uuraer-;ous sprints advanced the ball about !thirty-five yards. At this point the Massillon team formed for a tackle over but by a clever play the ball was passed to Brown w ho made a magnificent run around right and scored the third touchdown. The teams lined up without delay and McLain advanced the ball thirty yards, Bast lt;then made forty yards and Myers five 1 yards after which McLain hit centerthrice advancing the ball twenty ( yards. Myers made six yards through ]the tackle ; McLain went through cen- lt;ter for five yards after which Myers i again went through the line and 1 scored a touchdown. The teams lined 1 up for the last time. Massillon hadadvanced the ball about forty yards ] when time was called with the ball still with the Massillon team. 1The Massillon boys think the game 1 was “easy. ” They compliment Can- lt;ton on its square game and say that * for its weight it is a powerful eleven. * They say also that Williams, of Can- ’ ton, did splendid wTork and that in j many instances, unseen to the bystanders, he saved the game for Can- a ton.
