No previous Blue and Gold squad had held a margin of fifty points over an opponent In any one game.Larry Boyd paced the monumental JW victory with four touchdowns scored on runs of 4, 24, one, and 17 yards, all during a first half which saw the Colonels rampage to a total offense of 293 yards to Warren's 25 before the teams headed for the locker rooms.JAMES WOOD'S Initial scoring drive began with 8:42 remaining in the first canto as the Colonels received a Wildcat punt on their own 18-yard line and drove 82 yards In nine plays to score. Larry Boyd culminated the drive with a four-yard run Into the end zone as the clock showed 5:57 In the quarter.The march was highlighted by two long Headley aerials, one a 32-yard strike to Larrj Boyd and the other to Bill De-Haven for 42 yards which gave James Wood first and goal on the four.HEADLEY'S placement was good and the Colonels led 7-0.A Wildcat drive was halted as Mike Lake picked off a Mike Love pass on the 40-yard marker and ran the Interception back fifteen yards to the WC 25 with 0:55 left to set up the second Colonel tally.Two plays later, following a 15-yard dash by Chettie Spiel-man and a nine-yard sprint by Dave Goode, Larry Boyd smashed In his second touchdown from one yard out to Increase the Blue and Gold margin to 13-0. Mike Headley’s placement was wide to the right with 17 seconds on the clock.The second canto opened with the third Boyd touchdown as he returned a punt 36 yards to the Warren 38 marker. A Wildcat penalty moved the pigskin to the24 yard line where Larry began a Jaunt Into the end zone on the next play to Increase the Colonel pad to 20-0 as Mike Headley'* kick was good with 10:54 remaining.A FUMBLE recovery by Archie Robinson set up the fourth James Wood touchdown on a 38-yard Headley scoring pass to Bill DeHaven with 8:46 In the second quarter. Mike Headley again spilt the crossbars foe a 27-0 margin.On the ensuing kickoff Warren was caught with their backs to the wall as halfback Lovell Brown lost the handle on the ball but recovered his own fumble on the 16-yard line with 7:36 left.Following a play in which Warren gained no yardage, Archie Robinson, Wade Papke, Roger Soule and Allen Rogers went headhunting and dropped Warren punter, David Nicholson In the end zone for a safety and a 29-0 JW pad.THE FINAL James Wood drive of the half was made possible as John Riding, Roger Soule, Ronnie Combs and Chettie Splel-man dropped the Wildcat signal caller on the Warren 15 yard line.The alert James Wood defense partially blocked the WC punting attempt and took over on the 32 yard line.Short gains by Dave Wert, Bill DeHaven, and Dave Goode set up the last James Wood TD of the half as Larry Boyd sprinted 17 yards to the end zone.
