DAWSON STILL PRESIDENT!MAH A to Level ProtestiRe Russian OppositionPORTAGE LA PRAIRIE - The Manitoba Amateur Hockey A.v aoriation will send a strong protest to the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association against that bodies decision to play a Manitoba all-star junior hockey team against the touring Russian Moscow Selects at an exhibition game in Winnipeg January 31.The MAH A will base its protest that the contending Allen Cup Winnipeg Maroon team should have been the choice of the CAHA to play the Russians, and that the Manitoba body was not notified that definite plans had been set for the Russians to play in Winnipeg. 'W. T. Johnston, secretary man ager of the Winnipeg Maroons, presented the motion to severely castigate the CAHA during the annual meeting of the MAHA in Portage Sunday. About 40 delegates attended.CAHA president, Gordon Jukes, attended the meeting. He told the delegates that only one application to sponsor the Russian team was received from Manitoba.He advised the meeting that if It wanted the Winnipeg Maroons to represent the province against the Russian all-3tars, to place a protest before the CAHA.Re-elected president of the MAHA, Earl Dawson, of Rivers, said later, the provincial body Would place a strong brief and ask for a reversal of the decision.R. A. Alexander, of Winnipeg, was named first vice-president by acclamation. Ted Lozanski, of Souris, was elected second vice-president.Harry Foxton and Stan Reimer were the Portage delegates.The meeting defeated a motion by the Greater Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association for an annual $1,000 to that body to help share expenses of registration and other costs in operations of the GWMHA. However, President Dawson did promise consideration of higher compensation to theGjVMHA in the coming year.A request by the GWMHA for an additional member on the executive body of the MAHA has also been turned down by the meeting.A team from Czechoslovakiaand West Germany will also tour the west, it was announced.A Japanese all-star team will play an exhibition game in Brandon January 24, and W innipeg.
