LINTON FOOTBALL FANS got a chance to see one of the most resourceful football coaches around Friday night whenRockville came to Linton. Jay Barrett, former long time mentor at Terre Haute Schulte, kept his string of victories against Linton going.I his writer has been covering Linton football for four years as a reporter plus following the Miners long before coming to the Daily (itizen and Friday night was the first time in a long time I have seen a quick kick.Another thing which is unusual in this area, was setting up the screen pass down the sideline, instead of in the middle of the I ield. The play was good for a 60-yard touchdown run.It was the big play, which got the best of Linton Friday night. The Miner defense held on one of many occassions and Rockville was forced to punt the ball away. But Linton got to the punter a little too late and was flagged for a roughing penalty. The punter might be up for an academy award, but good punters are also usually good actors. This loss really had to be a rough one for Coach Dan Galbraith. Just when he and his assistant coaches were beginning to think the Miners were putting it together, Linton plays a game like Friday night.South Putnam is next for the Miners, and Linton’s lastchance. The Eagles were defeated Friday night byEdgewood.LAST WEDNESDAY NIGHT one of the biggest comebacks in Greene County volleyball took place at L and M in a juniorvarsity game.L and M defeated Central 15-9 in the first game but it looked like the loss only served to rile the Tigers.Central won the last two games in shutouts, 15-0 and 15-0. This is a first as far as I can remember in volleyball for GreeneCounty.THE L AND M VOLLEYBALL sectional opens Wednesday with Central and Bloomfield squaring off in the first match ofthe tournev.
