Take’s quarterback Stan David fired a 4-yard pass to Richard Peabody in the end zone for the Rattlers’ first score of the night. Peabody kicked the extra point and Tucumcari led 7 to 3.On Lovington’s next two offensive possessions before halftime the Cats managed a minus 9 yards and punted twice.The Rattlers had fumble trouble Friday night but theLHS bunch just couldn’tget anything going after they recovered the Tuke mis-cues.Robert Brown and Keith Kirkpatrick both recovered fumbles in good field position but the offense just couldn't capitalize on the mistakesThe first half ended with the Tucumcari boys losing 10 yards and Lovington being called for offsides, which wa9 declined and Lovington was behind on the scoreboard 7 to 3.The Wildcats picked up 60 yards rushing in the first half and 15 yards through the air for a total of 75 yards in the first stanza.Tucumcari had 90 yards rushing and 22 yards through the airways for a total offenseof 112 yards.Lovington took the second half kickoff and put together a touchdown drive and ate up the clock in the third quarter of play.Payne, Faith and DougJSwBrodie hit the Tuke defensive wall, blasted through and picked up lost of good yardage to the goal line.Payne had runs of 7, 8 and 10 yard spurts to move theball down field.Faith also had good running room with jaunts of 6, 10 and 7 yards.Brodie was the most impressive on the drive with five carries for 27 yards. One carry was for 15 yards and a first down. Another was for 14 yards and a first down play.With just 5:00 minutes showing on the scoreboard in the third stanza, Payne went into the end zone for the Wildcats only touchdown, from 4 yards out. Bolin kicked the extra point to put Lovington ahead 10 to 7.The Wildcats held the Rattlers the rest of the third quarter and most of the fourth.The Rattlers, wanting on the scoreboard, went to work and put together a drive to score.The Tuke boys scored on a 2 yard run by Cornell Evans with 6:30 left in the game. Roy Anderson picked up 45 yards on nine totes. Chuck Kelley carried six times for 25 yards and Cary Crouse had 13 yards on 4 attempts.Crouse scored the Lovington Wildcats second touchdown on a reverse play going around the end.On passing, Haragan completed two passes for twoyards. Josie Navarette placed three serves in to help out, Lucinda Boss banked in three more points, Kandy Carson tossed in two serves and Ten Alexander chipped in two points to account for Central's fifteen points and the win.For Taylor’s six points were: Leslye Matlock with three points and top point getter for the Tigers. Renee Weber served in two points and Terri Ford added one serve for the losing effort.Taylor came back to win the second game 15 to 11 and tie the match up.Sandra Payne really poured it on Central with ten serves for the top scoring honors.
