Boxing Bout Stopped.Dubuque, Oct. 31.—Shortly before the time set for opening the doors of the Germania Hall to the members of the Liberty Athletic Chib Monday night. Chief of Police Pick ley and Detective Raesii arrived on the scene and ordered the doors closed. The chief then announced that, the boxing exhibition scheduled for the evening!' would not be permitted by the au- ' thorities.The Liberty Athletic Club was or- ■ ganized a brief time ago and the of-r fleers elected were as follows; Presi- 1 dent, E. E. Mans; secretary a.nd treas- 1 urer. Chas. Meyer; boxing Instructor, George Sauers. It was the plan of ■ the organization to hold monthly box-! ing exhibitions^ ' Cards were issued toj the members.“Bits” ^ Meyers of West Dubuque and “Shine’* Reed of Freeport were matched for a ten-round bout Monday night. Two preliminaries had also been arranged,While making the arrangements for the evening's entertainment the promoters overlooked the request for permission from the municipal authorities, Accordingly, when.’. Mayor Schunlt was apprised of .the contemplated hosing exhibition he said It should not go on- Ho sent for Chief of Police PicUley and ordered him toj stop the exhibition.
