Sportsman TT Scrambles event this Sunday al the San Jose Fairgrounds to close out. the regular dirt track season.It will be only the second running of the event on the big track, which has half mile comers and uses a portion of the infield in order to make the course nearly a mile long, with both leEt and right hand turns and a jump.The event should attract over 500 riders, including many of the top 20 Black Plate specialists of Northern California’s Dist. * iholorcycle association.John Hlebo of Lra Gatos is the top seed, but he has spent much of the season resting, with corrective shoulder slirgery still bothering him.Kim Jorgensen is one of the favorites in the 250 cc Expert class, along wth brother Alex, a regular on the Camel Pm Series tour.Dennis Spence of Fremont is one of the contenders for the big bore 750 cc class, with John Tavisof San Jose the favorite. Tavis and Spence are also expected to duel it out in the 500 cc class._. Both riders placed high at the annual TT championships at earlier this month. Tulare Tavis'was third and fifth.There are also some entrants from Southern California, with Ascot ace Steve Fortune heading the list. Eddie Lawson in the 360 cc Expert, and Novice champion Pete Pestnni are some of the entrants from the Southland.Other top riders include. Rob Ely, Mike Garrison, Fred Merkel and Doug Chandler. Both Merkel and Chandler are tops in their specialities, scrambles and short tracking respectively.The Sunday event will be proceeded by the regular .
