Peter Maher was a cooper before he became a prizefighter.Kid McCoy was a clerk in a drygoods store before he became a prizefighter.Kid Scaler ,the Spokane boxer who has made such a good impression in the east ,is seeking a bout with Tommy Murphy. Scaler has yet to be defeated, winning eighteen of his nineteen battles and earning a draw in the odd one.Jim Driscoll, the champion featherweight of England, who recently defeated Jem Bowker for the title at the National Sporting club of London, has arrived in New York and will soon be seen in action in the rings of some of the eastern clubs.Two reasons are now given by tbe friends of Spike Robson for his poor showing in bis recent bout with Tommy Murphy. One is that he was affected by the climate and the other that he was “pulling” so as to get on again with Murphy when he comes back from England.
