European games a problemOTTAWA (CP) - After several months of peace, Hockey Canada and the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association appear to be at loggerheads again.iThe CAHA wants the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), the world governing body, to refuse approval of an exhibition series between European hockey teams and the .World Hockey Association, scheduled this winter. But Hockey Canada, which is supposed to be Canada’s voice in International hockey dealings, doesn’t agree with that approach.“We have all the makings of a squabble,** Lou Lefaive, director of Sport Canada, the federal sport agency, and a member of Hockey Canada’s board of directors, said Friday.“But hopefully we'll find an accommodation,” Lefalve added.Hockey Canada and the CAHA reached an agreement on International hockey dealings in June at the insistence of Sport Minister Iona Campagnolo. Basically it gave Hockey Canada control of international hockey. Now it appears the CAHA wants to upset the agreement, Lefaive said. This issue raises the validity of the agreement.”The CAHA is trying to get WHA teams to pay it for the major junior players they draft every year but the league has balked. Hockey Canada thinks the CAHA should continue court action it has started against the WHA and not take the international route to get WHA agreement.Lefaive said there is also the risk that the WHA could be in serious financial difficulty without the European series. The European teams would likely withdraw from the WHA series if the IIHF refused to sanction the series because the Europeans would be barred from other international competitions.
