The Rox bring a 3-5 record to Oliphant Field but play one of the most impressive schedules among Miner challengers.Some of the Rockville losses have come to teams like Sheridan, Fountain Central and Seeger. Two of the Rox’s victories have been over North Central and Attica, the latter being the most recent, teams,” said Miner coach Dan Galbraith “but we’ve played some tough teams too. He also scored 103 runs.NEW YORK (UPI) — Nadia Comaneci received another award Thursday but seemed more excited at meeting Chrystie Jenner’s husband.The Romanian teenager, now 15, who electrified the world with her record-shattering gymnastic feats during the Olympics in Montreal, was honored as the 1976 Pinch Woman Athlete of the World and with a check for $10,000 by Herman Merinoff, the sponsor of the event. The $10,000 was turned over to the Romanian Gymnastic Federation.She has been touring the U.S. with the team, and said through an interpreter, “The excitement of my trip to the United States, in addition to winning this beautiful trophy, was meeting with Bruce Jenner (the Olympic decathlon champion). (UPI) - Bill Hartack, fifth on the all-time leading riders list with 4,272 winners, and Sam Palumbo will be inducted into the Charles Town Jockey Hall of Fame Saturday night.Hartack, a Johnstown, Pa., native, started riding at Charles Town in the early 1950s and rode five Kentucky Derby winners, a total matched only by Eddie Arcaro.Palumbo, who * rode in Charles Town’s first race Dec. 3, 1933, was aboard more than 700 winners at Charles Town, more than any other jockey had at any single track in America, and he was among the nation’s top 30 riders in 1936 and 1938.UNIONDALE, N Y. (UPI) — The Detroit Red Wings, looking for a hard-working checker, and the New York Islanders, seeking an explosive goal-scorer, each got what • they wanted Thursday as the Wings sent Michel Bergeron to the Islanders for Andre St. Laurent in an exchange of forwards.Bergeron, 23, a right wing, is not known for his defensive prowess but has a proven ability as a sharpshooter; he tallied 32 goals two seasons ago as a rookie, a record for a first-year player. St. Laurent, 24, a center, is not known for his scoring, never getting as many as 15 goals in one season, butHaute Schulte to Rockville when Schulte was closed. The last time Barrett led a team against a Miner team was in 1974 when Linton played at Schulte.Galbraith said after the victory at Dugger-Union last week he hoped the victory would turn things around for the Miners. This week’s practice has been better than any so far in the season.Wednesday after one particularly good hitting drill Galbraith said to his players, “see how easy things go when you win, fellas. 1 on’t lose.” Tony Ledbetter is the only Linton player doubtful for this game. Ledbetter, a senior, hurt his right arm prior to the game with Union and just started working out lightly on Monday.When Dugger-Union and North Central get together it usually means a knockdown, drag out football game. The two are about even again this year, North Central having a 2-6 record and Union 0-8.The Bulldogs must stop the Thunderbirds on the ground if they are going to win. Against every opponent this season, including Brazil and North Knox, the Thunderbirds have mobed the ball consistently on the ground with fullback Kent Halberstadt and Keith McCombs.The Thunderbirds are also a team known for their flea-flicker play and occasional tricks.Union came out of the game with Linton in good health. No injuries slowed the Bulldogs.North Knox coach Jim Beery is expecting a “dog fight” at Sullivan.The Warriors, 36-0 winners over North Daviess last week, will be looking for halfback Blaine Boylard and end Ron Laconi especially. The two provide the majority of the Golden Arrow punch.For once Beery feels the Warriors may have to throw the football more. “They look like they are going to be tough to run against,” said Beery, “but sometimes a big team isn’t very quick.”All are healthy on the Warrior team for the first time this season but North Knox is expecting no cake walk.
