He never seems to play poorly.while hi* game performances range from good to very good.Other teams have learned early that Moulton’s favorite role is to slack up a play before it begins. Perhaps one play in Cat’s 17-7 win over the Air Force Academy typified the entire season.Quarterback Paul Stein elected to run Ken’s side and took along a pair of pulling linemen for company. Moulton literally tossed both aside and threw the play for a loss. Buf the quartet of Greg Palsmoun-tain, another Swuth County product, Jerry Mosher, Bobby Smith and Moulton quickly meshed Into a winning unit.And winning games is Ihe only indication Moulton cares to offer about his own relative improvement, “[.ast year we had too man y break-downs back there,” Ken recalled. “There were too many long ones completed on us.”But this season, Wilisey has assembled a winning unit wilh-Air Force and Washington (16-out the big names that graced lals year’s lineup. “We had Craig Morton and Jack Scltraub and we tended to rely on them,” Ken analyzed.This year we realize we must look to ourselves rather than rely on any super-stars end we're playing together as a team ■ - . And we're winning footballgames.Since the debacle against the Irish, the Bears have come on for increasingly fine performances, holding Michigan lo a 10-7 score and almost winning it before successive victories over Kansas (17-0),12).“I’d have to rale NotreDame and Washington equally tough,” Ken said despite the wide range in the scores and outcomes. Notre Dame just seemed to do everything right and it didn’t seem to matter what we tried to do lo defense them . . . Washington hit real good with us and it was a tremendously rewarding win.” Ken, who led the Bears In fumble recoveries last season, turned in his Ion* interception this year against Kansas, but tends to discount this obvious aspect of defensive glory.I really believe It’s a matter of being in the right place at the right time,” the soft-spoken senior contended.
