—A large number of citizens witnessed the gaare of football leat: Saturday afternoon between a tune from Webish College (Crawfords ville), and the Indiana Unniversity team. Four ball is mot foot ‘ball any more. They don't kick the ball over the trees, nor vend it ow i in the Geld with a scurdy engaging blow, as in baseball. The gym is now played socording 9 “Bung by” rules (‘la English you know) and it is merely a question of phys ical strength and indifference to bruises and broken limbs. Except that the participants do not sriky each other with their fice, there i but little to redeem the pon paine of football from pugiliesa of the coarsest type. Timy crowd, jostle, fall upom each other with weight and force, kick action scri dentally of course, but it frequest]r happens and succeed in disabling in number of players at aach gene. On Batarcay six men were diesbled —three from each team---and sev eral of them were seriously hurt. We do not believe that any [other or mother can look with indiffer ence upon the game when one of their son gets passcaieon of the ball and twelve orifteen struggling burly fellows hurl themselves upon him with a force that, if it in mob vicious, has that appearance to Es on-looker.
