We are really looking forward to winning our final two games, against Farra-gut and Westinghouse to get into the playoffs.”Those were the comments of Coach Mel Lloyd after his undermanned but courageous little band of grid warriors had fallen before the unbeaten and high scoring Indians last Friday in Lane’s home stadium, 42 to 14.Coach Ron Rio of Lane stated that his team was flat against the spirited Falcons of Prosser, only 22 strong. But some of the “flatness” was no doubt caused by the smaller but aggressive Falcons wrho were in the game well into the third quarter. The Faicons were behind at halftime, 22 to 8, but they closed the gap on the first play of the third period when their talented end, Jerry Hailey, returned the third quarter kickoff 85 yards to score. It was the second second kickoff return for the speedy 5-10 senior this season. An ensuing pass from Lane quarterback Mark Whittingill went over the Prosser safety for the fourth Lane touchdown which seemed to be the beginning of the end for the willing Falcons.A Prosser fumble in the first period set up Lane's first score in the first period, Tony Giacomino running rhough for nine yards and then following that with a two-yard sprint. But the Falcons had their turn late in the first stanza, Jim Det-mer falling on a Lane mis-eue on the Indians’ 12. Four plays later Dan Weber, whocomported himself as well as did the Lane field general, plunged over from the two-yard stripe. Hailey then speared a pass from Weber and the game was tied. The Indians took the lead for good in the second period on a pair of tallies. One came when they put together a 96-yard march that culminated in WhittingilPs one yard scoring plunge. The second came when Whitin-gill, who had missed four straight passes, finally connected on one to Brian Johnson for 12 yards and a touchdown, aLane's three second-half scores came on touchdown passes from Whitingill to Bob Felde (18 yards) and to Chuck Richarz (27) and a two-vard run by Felde. The Falcons will meet the Admirals of Farragut on Friday afternoon of this week in Len Stadium, the game starting at 3:15 p.m.
